Evaluation of Predicted Fashion Trends - Color – Fall 2010

As we say farewell to the sun filled days of Summer, we are just beginning to open our eyes and wake up to the warmth of Fall. Leaves will descend from its branches, the Summer heat will fade, and the burst of warm/cool colors will take over the environment. While the season of Fall begin to set in, fashion will run it’s coarse into a new direction. Shorts will turn into leggings, sandals will turn into flats, and skin that was once bare because of skimpy string bikinis, will now be covered with layers and layers of clothing. Colors that was once acceptable during the summer, will now fade away into the past, bringing the trendy Fall colors into existence.

Renaissance Festival

This Fall, colors will travel in a time machine and reach back to the Renaissance era. Think of rusted medieval colors of browns, reds, plums and olives. All of the neutral colors will be blended and reintroduced with gold’s and metallic’s, creating a ‘Robin-hood’ story book of colors. Forest colors will dominate along with earthly tones, giving a reflection of sensibility to nature with a modern twist. Colors such as Purple Orchid, Chocolate Truffle, Woodbine, Golden Glow, and Lipstick Red will be displayed throughout the fashions of this season

As retailers begin to unravel Fall previews of fashion, it’s very evident that the ‘Renaissance’ theme has taken place. I’ve seen the color pantones in retailers such as Express, BeBe, and Arden B. The color trends that are currently taking place in stores now, was amazingly accurate to the predicted color trends of Fall 2010. Gold’s and Plum’s almost dominated, along with the shades of black and grey. I think this will be more acceptable in the professional environment because the colors are safe and have a feel of maturity. Women will glow, and feel confident wearing these colors.

1940’s Hollywood Glam

There’s nothing like the colors of the 1940’s Hollywood Glam, such as; silky tones of coral, and light grey’s with black. Colors have resurfaced from the 40’s and will take place during the rise of the Fall 2010 season. We will see colors such as masculine grey’s and blacks, coffee browns, and soft fluorescent pink’s and blues. This reminds me of old black and white movies that had a soft look to them with stunning glares. The fall season will be made up of Pantone colors such as; Oyster Grey, Rose Dust, Crown Blue, Zephyr, and Twilight Mauve.

I find it so amazing how much of the predicted trends for this season are so accurate! Once again the predicted colors for this season are very apparent in the retails stores. The BCBG MAXAZRIA Herve Leger Pre-Fall 2010 line had an abundance of the 1940’s inspired color looks. Dresses are in rich shades of greys, blue’s, pastel pink’s, black, and plum’s. This color trend will amaze consumers, and will be adopted easily. I can see this particular color trend in the night life; women will have fun using these flirtatious colors to inspire a great night out in the city, just as an elegant 1940’s Hollywood star would have.

Industrial Construction

Last year fashion trends primarily focused on the hardships of the economy, currently we’re in the process of CHANGE. We are rebuilding our economy and moving past those hardships of the economy. What better way to express this notion than to have colors related to the new construction we will face? When you think of construction, you think of rusty industrial machines that are used to build or the shades of green and brown when the earth is broken to be replaced by a tall grey and shiny industrial building. You may even think about the garnished blues in the overall’s that are worn by construction workers. All of these thoughts play a part in what to expect for this season in colors.

Colors such as “somber, subtle neutrals composed of inky blue, iron gray and taupe brown” , also additional colors of “greenish beige, dark bronze, teal blue, violet” will be available in different styles to consumers this Fall.

Retailers that carry more of the casual looks such as ForeverXXI, Banana Republic, and Hollister have this certain color trend available to consumers. The color trend will most likely be used to fit in the relaxed and comfortable category and will be targeted to students and mid-range adults. I can see this trend dominating the youth market because it’s relatable to their living styles. The colors seem to give a welcoming invitation to relaxation and chill & mellow times with your best buds in study hall.
